Hello Again.

Hi, I’m Khai (Nur Khairiyah Binte Ramli), a creative producer with a passion for amplifying underrepresented voices in the arts. Originally from Singapore, I’m now based in London, where I continue to champion diverse stories.

My journey in the arts began in 2010 with The Necessary Stage in Singapore, where I had the privilege of working on award-winning productions like Gemuk Girls (Fat Girls) and Model Citizens, as well as supporting the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival.

In 2012, I joined The Substation as Programmes Manager, where I was responsible for programming major events like the Night Festival and SeptFest. I also led the Performing Arts season, commissioning new works and providing a platform for emerging artists to experiment and take creative risks.

In 2016, I took the leap into freelance work, managing HATCH, a local theatre collective, and producing a range of original productions including Hawa, Super Happy Land, Cari Makan, and Lanang. One of the highlights was taking Super Happy Land on tour to Osaka, Japan, and Hawa to Brisbane Fest, Australia—both experiences were incredibly rewarding in terms of seeing our work resonate internationally.

In 2018, I moved to London to pursue an MA in Creative Producing at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. Graduating in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I launched RUMAH, a virtual space supporting Asian diaspora creatives. Through online events like Main-Main (Scratch Nights) and Crying Parties, I was able to bring artists together, foster connection, and provide a supportive space for skill-building during a challenging time. I was grateful for the backing of Arts Council England and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation in making these programs a reality. In 2022, I was honoured to be nominated for Asian Woman of Achievement by NatWest.

Since 2021, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a range of incredible companies. I served as Interim Creative Producer for Departure Lounge at In Good Company, a key development program for creatives in the Midlands. That same year, I began collaborating with Complicité, an internationally renowned theatre company, where I worked on productions like The Dark Is Rising, Figures in Extinction, and Can I Live? by Fehinti Balogun. I was also honoured to receive the Stage One Producers Bursary, which supported me in bringing Martha Watson Allpress’s Patricia Gets Ready to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2021, followed by a regional tour. You can buy a copy of the playtext here.

In 2023, I returned to freelancing full-time, collaborating with companies like Vital Xposure and Hackney Empire. I also became Associate Producer at Brixton House, where I supported the annual Housemates Festival. I had the pleasure of serving as Tour Producer for Spare Tyre’s sensory production On the Beach, designed specifically for older adults living with dementia and their carers.

At the moment, I’m transitioning into a new role as General Manager for LUNG, a campaign-driven theatre company known for its verbatim theatre work, as well as for Spymonkey, the UK’s leading physical comedy ensemble. It’s an exciting new chapter, and I’m looking forward to continuing to support creative, impactful work in the arts.

I’m always open to new collaborations and opportunities to make meaningful, exciting theatre that pushes boundaries and elevates diverse voices. Feel free to reach out—let’s create something special together.
